New Zealand's highest partnership in the T20 World Cup

T20 World Cup: Finally the T20I World Cup was played by New Zealand. That was what broke his heart. They are the only team to have appeared in the finals of all the last three ICC tournaments. They played the T20I World Cup final against Australia in 2021, the ODI World Cup final against England in 2019 and the WTC final against India in 2021.

However, they were unfortunate to come out on the other side of the white-ball competition. But they really showed that they made the team surprise and lift the trophy. In this article, we will discuss New Zealand's highest partnership in T20 World Cup history.

4. Daryl Mitchell and Devon Conway (82 runs) vs England in ICC 2021.

In the first semi-final of the 2021 World Cup, England competed against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi. After winning the toss, the Black Caps elected to bowl first. England got off to an average start but conceded goals regularly. In the end, England scored 166/4 in 20 overs, with Moeen Ali leading the way with 51* off 37 balls.

Chasing the target, NZ lost their first two wickets for 13 runs and it looked like England might topple over. But that was followed by an 82-run partnership for the third wicket between Daryl Mitchell and Devon Conway. This partnership helped New Zealand beat England and they entered the final. Mitchell remained unbeaten on 72* off 47 and won the Man of the Match award.

3. James Franklin and Brendon McCullum (94 runs) vs Bangladesh in the 2012 ICC tournament.

The third-highest partnership with New Zealand was against Bangladesh in the 2012 World Cup at Pallekele. Interestingly, this match also saw the highest individual score in T20 World Cup history. First, New Zealand reached 191/3 in their 20 overs. Brendon McCullum top scored with 123 off 58 balls, including 11 fours and seven sixes.

He along with James Franklin added 95 runs for the second wicket and helped their team to a big total. Chasing the target, Bangladesh did not get off to a good start as they lost their first four wickets in just 6.4 overs. They scored only 132/8 and lost the match by 59 runs. McCullum scored a century in this match and won the MOTM award.

2. Martin Guptill and Glenn Phillips (105 runs) vs Scotland in T20 World Cup 2021.

The second-highest partnership with New Zealand was in the last T20I World Cup. It was the match between Scotland and New Zealand which was the 32nd match of the tournament. After winning the toss, Scotland elected to bowl first. The Black Caps lost their first three wickets in 52 runs. But after that opener, Martin Guptill and Glenn Phillips added 105 runs for the fourth wicket.

Guptill scored 93 off 56 runs and helped his team to 172/5 in his 20 overs. Chasing a goal, Scotland also got off to a good start, with three or four shots in the 20s scoring. But they could not hold on for long and lost the match by 16 runs. Guptill was named Man of the Match for his brilliant knock.

1. Quinton de Kock and Riley Rossouw (168 runs) vs Bangladesh in 2022 T20 World Cup.

The 168 runs between Quinton de Kock and Raila Rosuwa is now the highest T20 World Cup partnership for any wicket in NZ. They beat their previous record in one year.
