Bangladesh's highest partnership in T20 World Cup
T20 World Cup: Bangladesh has been one of the surprise packages when it comes to major tournaments like World Cups. They have always tried their best to perform in ICC events and have impressed some big teams. However, when it comes to the T20 World Cup, their best performance came in the first season.
Bangladesh came to a very good level in 2007. In terms of highest partnerships, they have six 100-plus partnerships in T20 cricket and two 100-plus partnerships in the World Cup. So in this article we are going to look at the top ten partnerships with Bangladesh in T20 World Cup history.
3. Tamim Iqbal and Sabir Rahman (97 runs) vs Oman in 2016 T20.
It was the 12th match of the 2016 World T20 tournament between BAN and Oman in Dharamsala. During the toss Oman won the toss and Oman won the toss and decided to bowl first. But Bangladesh started well and added 42 runs in both overs. But after that small partnership, Tamim Iqbal and Shabir Rahman batted brilliantly.
The two batsmen added 97 runs for the second wicket and scored 180/2 for their team in 20 overs. Tamim scored a brilliant century, Bangladesh's only century in the World T20. He scored an unbeaten 103* off 63 balls, including ten fours and five maximums. However, the match was reduced to 12 overs in the second innings due to rain. Oman scored just 65 runs for the loss of nine wickets and lost the match by 54 runs.
2. Aftab Ahmed and Mohammad Ashraful (109 runs) against West Indies in the 2007 World T20.
The 2007 T20 World Cup was the best tournament in BD; they made it to the super 8. They played very good cricket throughout this season. Bangladesh had the second-highest partnership in the match against the West Indies in Johannesburg. Batting first, the Caribbean team scored 164/8 in their 20 overs with Devon Smith scoring 51 runs.
Chasing the target, Bangladesh started poorly, losing their first two wickets in just 28 runs. But to play after that, Mohammad Ashraful and Aftab Ahmed scored 109 brilliant runs for Ghila and the third wicket. Both batsmen raised their half-years. Bangladesh are chasing the target with six wickets in hand and 12 balls to spare. Ashraful made 61 off 27 balls and Aftab made 62* off 49 balls.
1. Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim (112 runs) against Australia in T20 World Cup 2014.
The highest partnership was in the 2014 World Cup against Australia at Mirpur. After winning the toss, Bangladesh chose to bat first but got off to a terrible start. They lost the opener by 12 runs. This led to two of their best batsmen. Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim then played solidly and added 112 runs for the third wicket.
Shakib scored 66 while Mushfiqur scored 44 to help his team post a respectable total of 153/5 in 20 overs. But it was not a winning total against a strong Australian batting line-up. In both matches, the Australians scored 98 runs for the first wicket, which made it easier to chase down other wickets. Australia played brilliantly and won this match by 7 wickets.
