The Gujarat-born cricketer is only the fourth Indian captain to lead the Men in Blue in at least 15 T20Is.

MS Dhoni (72 matches), Rohit Sharma (54 matches) and Virat Kohli (50 matches) are the other captains who have led India in multiple matches in the shortest format of cricket. Among these four, Pandya has the second-best win percentage in T20I cricket at 62.5%.

Hardik Pandya's captaincy record in Indian T20 league

Hardik Pandya has been appointed as the captain of Team Gujarat after being roped in by the franchise for the 2022 Indian T20 League Grand Auction.

The decision was an instant hit as Pandya guided Gujarat to their first Indian T20 league title in 2022. The star all-rounder also became the first captain since the legendary Shane Warne to lead the franchise to the title in his first year. Indian T20 League.

In 2023, Pandya continued to impress as a leader, leading Gujarat to the final of the Indian T20 League. However, Gujarat lost the 2023 final against MS Dhoni's team Chennai by five wickets (DLS method).

In total, Pandya has led the way in 55 T20 matches so far. As captain, he recorded 35 wins and 19 losses with an impressive win percentage of 63.60%.

Therefore, Pandya can be seen as one of the prime candidates to replace Rohit Sharma as India's captain shortly.
