Hardik misses first match of IPL 2025 after slow speed ban

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has been punished for his side's slow lead in their last game of IPL 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants on Friday (May 17).

As it was the third time MI had been found guilty of the same offence, Hardik was handed a one-match ban similar to the one handed down to Rishabh Pant earlier this season. However, with MI already out of the tournament and last night being their last league game, Hardik's ban will be carried over to IPL 2025.

The ban will remain in effect wherever Hardik plies his trade in IPL 2025 after the auction. The rest of the team was fined INR 12 lakhs or 50% of the match fee, whichever is less.

Hardik had a forgettable campaign in his first season as Mumbai Indians captain after returning to the franchise. He managed just 18 with the bat and, more importantly, the five-time champions ended the campaign as the only side to fail to touch double figures as they took the last wicket.
