The Grand Prairie Stadium will host the T20 Cricket World Cup
In June, Grand Prairie will host one of the biggest cricket tournaments in the world, attracting international television rights and thousands of fans to the region.
News: Grand Prairie Stadium will host "front-runner" matches for the International Cricket Council Men's T20 World Cup, which is co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies this summer.
Why it matters: US cricket fans have long wanted to host international cricket matches, and Grand Prairie Stadium was built with that in mind.
This stadium is chosen as the centre for the matches in the T20 World Cup. National and international matches are held here. The cricket community of North Texas has a prominent position in the matches.
Plot: The World Cup allows nations including powerhouses such as England, Pakistan, India and Australia to compete for cricket bragging rights. It's also an opportunity for relatively young teams like Canada and the United States to showcase their budding talents.
India and Pakistan have some of the biggest cricket matches, which creates a lot of ego around World Cup time.
Details: Twenty countries are participating in this year's tournament. They will be divided into four groups for a total of 55 matches.
Florida and New York are the other two American hosts.
The top two nations from each group advance to the Super Eight round, which is played alongside the semi-final and final matches in the West Indies.
Zoom: Grand Prairie games include USA vs. Canada on June 1, Netherlands vs. Nepal on June 4, USA vs. Pakistan will play a match in this stadium on June 6 and Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh match will take place in this stadium on June 7.
Tickets are not yet on sale, but fans can sign up to be alerted when they become available.
