There have been seven editions to date, with the upcoming edition taking place in Australia this year. Interestingly, former Indian captain Virat Kohli still holds the record for most runs in a single T20 World Cup.
The golden batsman in T20 World Cup list
1. Matthew Hayden (2007)
The first edition of the shorter format took place in South Africa in 2007. The first winner of the Golden Bat was former Australian opener Matthew Hayden. The left-hander was the leading run-scorer in the 2007 edition. Hayden scored 265 runs in six matches at an average of 88.33 and 144.80 respectively, including four half-centuries.
2. Tillakaratne Dilshan (2009)
Tillakatne Dilshan was one of Sri Lanka's leading batsmen to win the Golden Bat Award. He was at his best from 2009 to 2012. He showed it in the 2009 edition. He won the 'Golden Bat' in the 2009 World Cup, which was the main reason why Sri Lanka reached the finals. Dilshan scored 317 runs in seven matches at an average of 52.43 and 144.74, including three half-centuries.
3. Mahela Jayawardene (2010)

In the 2010 season, he won the Golden Baton. Jayawardene ended the season with 302 runs in six matches at a strike average of 60.40 and 159.78 respectively.
4. Shane Watson (2012)
The former Australian all-rounder was in high demand at the start of the last decade. Watson won the Golden Stick Award while playing in 2012. Watson scored a total of 249 runs in his innings at an impressive average of 49.80 and a striking strike rate of 150. He also scored three fifties in his innings. He was explosive with both bat and ball in this tournament.
5. Virat Kohli (2014)
The former Indian captain does not have many batting records. He still holds the record for most runs scored in a single edition. It was the 2014 edition in Bangladesh. Virat Kohli scored 319 runs in just six innings at an incredible average of 106.33 and an amazing strike rate of 129.15. This innings of Virat Kohli also includes four half-centuries. Although India did not make it to the final Virat won the Golden Bat award.
6. Tamim Iqbal (2016)
Tamim Iqbal has always done very well for Bangladesh. He showed it at the 2016 World Cup in India. Kreilis finished the season with the most runs and won the Golden Bat. He scored 295 runs in six matches at an average of 73.75 and 142.52, including one century and one half-century.
7. Babar Azam (2021)
The Pakistan captain is arguably the best batsman in the world right now. He showed it at the last ICC event in the UAE. Babar did really well to lead his team to the semi-finals and won the Golden Bat. He scored 303 runs in six innings at an average of 60.60 and a strike rate of 126.25, including four half-centuries.
8. Virat Kohli (2022)
