IPL 2024: CSK's Mustafizur Rahman completes 300 T20 wickets
Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman took 300 wickets in T20 cricket, becoming the second bowler from his country to reach the milestone.
The veteran hit the milestone in his team Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Visakhapatnam.
During the match, Mustafizur was expensive with the ball and gave away 47 runs in four overs with an economy rate of 11.80. But still, he got the wicket of David Warner.
Bangladesh fast bowlers have taken 300 wickets in their innings at an average of 21.71 and a strike rate of 17.4 while playing in T20 in 243 matches. His best bowling figures are 5/22. He took six four-wicket hauls and three five-wicket hauls in the shortest format.
His Bangladesh team-mate and star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is the fifth-highest wicket-taker in T20s with 482 scalps in 428 matches at an average of 21.19.
The highest run-scorer in the sport's shortest format is West Indian great Dwayne Bravo, who has scored 625 runs in 573 T20 matches at an average of 24.29, with best bowling figures of 5/23. He has 11 fours and two five-wicket hauls in T20 cricket.
Mustafizur is the Purple Cap holder for most wickets in IPL 2024 so far with seven three-match averages of 15.14 and best bowling figures of 4/29.
During the toss, DC won the toss. But they won the toss and elected to bat first. David Warner (52 off 35 balls, with five fours and three sixes) and the returning Prithvi Shaw (43 off 27 balls, with four boundaries and two sixes) started well with 93 runs. After the dismissal, DC lost their direction for a while until Rishab Pant (51 off 32 balls, with four boundaries and three sixes) finally scored some quick knocks to reach 191/5 in 20 overs.
Matheesha Pathirana (3/31) was the pick of the CSK bowlers.
Chasing 192 runs, Khaleel Ahmed (2/21) and Mukesh Kumar (3/21) troubled the CSK batsmen with their line and length and at one stage CSK were 75/3 in 10.2 overs. Ajinkya Raha scored 45 runs off 30 balls which included five fours and two sixes. Daryl Mitchell scored 34 runs in 26 balls, including one four and two sixes. MS Dhoni scored 37 runs off 16 balls which included four fours and a six. These players played a wonderful role in their innings. But DC won this match by 20 runs. The five-time champions were restricted to 171/6 by DC.
Khaleel won the 'Player of the Match' title for winning the game.
