Bad news for LSG, Mayank Yadav is hurt in the same spot, says coach Justin Langer
Lucknow: Mayank Yadav walked off the field in his comeback match without completing his fourth over and Lucknow Super Giants coach Justin Langer said due to the new speed, he felt pain from the wound in the same place. Due to this, he was ruled out of the game for about three weeks.
The 21-year-old pacer returned to action against Mumbai Indians after a five-match absence on Tuesday but failed to complete his quota of four hits. "It looks like he's hurting in the same spot," Langer told the broadcaster after the game.
"His rehab has been perfect. He's been pain-free for the last week or so and seems in good shape. We'll do a scan and find out tomorrow." Mejan, who took 1 for 31 in 3.1 overs on Tuesday, made a sensational start to the IPL with six wickets in his first two games before being sidelined with stomach pain.
LSG captain KL Rahul said Mayank complained of minor pain in his side. "I haven't spoken to him yet. He had a bit of pain in his side and after the first ball, he said it was a bit of pain. I don't think you should take any chances, he's still ' a young guy
"It's not just the pace. In this match, he showed that he has more skills than bowling 150+. He will try to play as well as possible. Because of his effort, he will only learn when to bowl well. At this stage, we gave him free rein to just enjoy himself and bowl what he wanted.
On LSG's four-wicket win over MI, Langer said: "We were bitterly disappointed in our last game. So to come against MI and win against them brings a smile. "It was brilliant (bowling effort). I think we have all bases covered. We took early wickets for the first time (apart from Bangalore) and that set us up nicely.
The former Australian coach also praised Marcus Stoinis for his 45-ball 62 and 1-for-19 that secured LSG's victory. "He's been a real match-winner. He's played a good role in the past as well. He's showing a good presence at the top of the order, which we've been asking for after the first few games.
“Match winners (like him) are the key to progress in tournaments like this. I am amazed at the IPL and how tight it is, almost like the World Cup.
Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya was disappointed. "I think it's hard to recover from an early goal and that's what we couldn't do today (from recovery). You have to see the ball and shoot. We just missed those balls and got out, that's the season we had so far." he said. Nehal Vadher's 46 off 41 balls got MI a fighting score and was praised by Hardik.
"He was fantastic the way he batted against Rajasthan and tonight. He was fantastic last year too. It was because of the team mix that he couldn't play early. If you look at his performance, he has been in Mumbai for many years for the Mumbai team. In this game, he has finally seen his game performance for the Indian team.
